TOO LITTLE TOO LATE FOR BLUE DEVILS
2 Homeruns were all the offense that KCKCC could muster in a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Maple Woods Community College.
With the winds gusting upwards of 30mph, the Blue Devil bats picked the wrong time to cool off. KCK got off to a fast start as Christian Arnold hit his 9th dinger of the year in the bottom of the opening frame. Arnold laced the 2-0 fastball to straight away center-field, driving Tanner Thibodeau in, who was on second after doubling into the right-center gap. KCK sat on that 2-0 lead for too long. Spencer Nielsen scattered 5 hits through 4.33 innings of work. Nielsen left in the 5th, turning the 2 run lead over to Jonathan May. May faced just 5 MWCC hitters and could not record an out; surrendering 3 runs on an error, a double, a walk and a bases loaded hit batsmen. Derek Watkins came on to shut down the inning with a bases loaded strike out.
Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the 9th Daniel LaMunyon brought KCK to within 1 with a 3 run blast. Tyler Raymond, Eric Hinostroza and pinch-hitter, Hunter Walsh were then set down in order to close the game.
KCKCC falls to 25-18 as they get ready for a pivotal KJCCC Eastern Conference series. KCK is vying for a home playoff spot while Highland is fighting for their playoff lives. The Blue Devils will travel to Highland for a 1pm double-header on Thursday and then play host to the Scotties at 1pm Saturday.
