CASEY's EIGHT 3-POINTERS PACE KCKCC ATTACK ON RECORD BOOK
Paced by a record-setting long range shooting performance by freshman Rashaun Casey, Kansas City Kansas Community College wrote a couple of new entries into the record book in a 101-40 win over Central Methodist's JV Monday night.
A 5-7 guard from Bentonville, Ark., Casey hit 8 of 16 3-point shots – the most 3-pointers in KCKCC history. The eight field goals broke a 21-year-old record of seven 3-pointers set back on Dec. 1, 1992, by Schwana Prince. Casey finished with a game high 26 points and added eight rebounds.
The Lady Blue Devils finished with 70 rebounds which is also believed to be an all-time high.
Seven Blue Devils recorded seven or more rebounds. Imani White had 11 and Cassidy Harbert 10 to lead while Janai Mitchell added nine; Julia Garrard, Iland Shurn and Casey eight each; and Alyson Weber seven.
White added 18 points, Mitchell 12, Harbert 9 and Bailey West and Eirenei Alesana 8 each. White also led in assists with seven with Harbert and Kalah Jiggetts adding five each. The Blue Devils were 39-for-79 (49.4 percent) from the field while Central Methodist was held scoreless the first 11½ minutes of play.
The win boosted KCKCC's record to 10-1 heading into the Southeast Nebraska Classic in Beatrice this weekend. Both Blue Devil teams will take on Southeast on Friday (6 and 8 p.m.) and Central Nebraska Saturday (2 and 4 p.m.).
