HARBERT'S TRIPLE DOUBLE LEADS KCKCC PAST WESTMINSTER
After coming so close on three other occasions, freshman Cassidy Harbert finally got over the hump in pursuit of Kansas City Kansas Community College's first triple double in several years Friday night.
Scoring 14 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and dolling out 10 assists, the 5-5 guard from Wichita Northwest led the KCKCC women (17-2) to an 84-34 win over Westminster College's JV. Harbert, who has six double doubles this season, came within one assist of a triple double in a game against Neosho, two assists against Ottawa's JV and two points against Cottey College.
Sophomore Bailey West and freshman Julia Garrard had double doubles against Westminster, West with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Garrard 12 points and 11 rebounds while Janai Mitchell came close to a double double with 17 points and 8 rebounds.
Kalah Jiggetts was also in double figures with 10 points while Alyson Weber had eight points and six rebounds. KCKCC raced to a 38-9 halftime lead by allowing Westminster to convert just 3-of-28 shots for 10.7 percent.
The Lady Blue Devils will close out non-conference play Monday when they host Benedictine's JVs at 6 p.m. and then its Jayhawk Conference Division II play the rest of the way starting Wednesday at Johnson County at 5:30 p.m. The women's opener will match two of the Top 10 Division II teams in the nation, No. 2 JCCC (18-0) and No. 8 KCKCC.
The Blue Devils will stay on the road Saturday afternoon, playing at No. 5 Highland (18-1) at 1 p.m. before their first home conference game against Brown Mackie Wednesday, Jan. 29.
