Academic success at Kansas City Kansas Community College was recognized Wednesday as 85 student-athletes were honored for their work in the classroom.
The student athletes in all KCKCC sports and cheerleaders were honored for achieving grade point averages of 3.0 or better. Of those honored, 26 earned 4.0 grade point averages, 25 between 3.5-3.99 and 34 between 3.00 and 3.49.
"We're extremely proud of our student athletes, coaches and support staff," said KCKCC Athletic Director Tony Tompkins. "They take the academic side seriously and I could not be more proud."
On hand to recognize the athletes were KCKCC President Dr. Greg Mosier, Dr. Beth Ann Krueger, Vice-President of Academic Affairs; Dr. Delfina Wilson, Vice-President of Student Services; Cleon Wiggins, Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Public Service; and Board of Trustee members Rosalyn Brown and Linda Sutton.
Collectively, 59 percent of all student athletes had grade point averages of 3.0 or higher led by softball (3.41), men's soccer (3.33), volleyball (3.09), baseball (3.07), women's basketball (2.95), women's soccer (2.84), golf (2.77) and men's basketball (2.61).
Student Senate representatives in attendance included President Aliyah Shaw, Colby Dunbar, Daniel Zacapa and Nadia Veyeyou.
