KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The sixth-ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team kept pace with Metropolitan CC Wednesday evening, but would come up short to the Wolves 61-52 on the road.
The Blue Devils are now 8-2 overall on the season.
Both teams got off to a slow start as the first basket was not scored until the 7:08 mark of the first quarter. KCKCC would tie the score late in the first quarter at 8-8 after a basket from Faith Putz before Trinity McDow and De'Jaria Guillroy ignited a 5-0 run by the Blue Devils. KCKCC would lead 13-11 after the first quarter. Metropolitan CC would take a 22-21 lead with 2:34 left in the second quarter and their lead increased to eight. Guillroy would sink a three-pointer with 23 seconds left to cut the Blue Devil deficit to five points.
KCKCC grabbed a 37-36 lead in the third quarter after Tiaira Earnest sank a long range shot. The Wolves however, made a run and both teams would go into the fourth quarter tied at 41-41. Putz later gave the team a 47-45 lead with 6:05 to play, but a 6-0 run by the Wolves helped them increase their lead down the stretch and hold off the Blue Devils.
Earnest led the team with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds and Putz had 11 points and four assists.
The Blue Devils return to the court on Saturday as they take on North Central Missouri College on the road at 2 p.m.
