No. 16 Women's Basketball Falls In Tough Test To No. 4 Labette

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team had not played a game since Dec. 11, nor a home game inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse since Nov. 30. On Saturday they had a tough test as they went up against No. 4 Labette CC. Despite hanging with the Cardinals early on, the Blue Devils were unable to connect on the offensive end and would fall 59-30.

The Blue Devils are now 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the KJCCC on the season.

The Blue Devils were trailing early 9-6 in the first quarter before both teams traded three-point baskets – one coming from Mercer Roberts for the Blue Devils. KCKCC would trail 14-9 after the first quarter. Labette was able to increase their advantage and led 24-13 to go up by double-digits in the next period. Roberts, Lacy Whitcomb and Faith Putz would connect on three straight baskets for the Blue Devils, but the lead was in the Cardinals' favor.

The Blue Devils's offense would sputter in the second half and Labette eventually came out with the win.

Whitcomb led the team with 11 points and Roberts had five points.

KCKCC will return to action on Wednesday when they play at Hesston College at 6 p.m.
