KANSAS CITY, Kan. – In a low scoring affair Saturday afternoon the Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team was able to hold off Allen County CC for a 54-47 win, making it their second straight victory.
The Blue Devils are now 11-7 overall and 3-2 in the KJCCC.
Early on in the game Allen County got out to a small lead, but Aysia Arrowood would connect on a three-point basket to give the Blue Devils the 8-7 advantage. Allen County would sink two free throws toward the end of the first quarter and the Red Devils led 11-10. Arrowood would pick up where she left off in the first quarter and scored six of the next eight points for the Blue Devils on three-point baskets. Jennifer Guilbeaux would add the other two points during the run. KCKCC would end the quarter on a 6-3 run to take a 26-18 lead at halftime.
Lacy Whitcomb gave the Blue Devils a 10-point lead to start the third quarter after knocking down two shots from the charity stripe. The team continued to get scoring from Arrowood, while Faith Putz and Guilbeaux added into the mix. Allen County would claw back however and cut KCKCC's lead to four points after three quarters, 35-31.
KCKCC would manage to hang on down the stretch, despite Allen County CC coming within four points. The Blue Devils sank free throws down the stretch to extend their lead and win the game.
Arrowood led the team with 19 points, while Whitcomb added 10.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Fort Scott CC for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
