OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – In a rematch from just over a week ago the KCKCC women's basketball team faced off against No. 2 Johnson County CC on the road. The Blue Devils hung in with the Cavaliers during the first half, but a long stretch of runs by the Cavaliers in the second half would end in an 83-50 defeat.
The Blue Devils are now 14-10 overall and 6-5 in the KJCCC on the season.
Four quick points by the Blue Devils' Faith Putz and Jennifer Guilbeaux lasted for the first two minutes of the game. JCCC's slow start would become nonexistent as they scored nine unanswered points to take a 9-6 lead. The Cavaliers built a 10-point lead before De'Jaria Guillory and Putz hit two straight three-point shots. JCCC would lead 24-15 after the first quarter.
The Blue Devils would climb back in the second quarter after Lacy Whitcomb hit a long-range shot, making it 34-29 Cavaliers. But then JCCC held KCKCC off for a late run to take a 38-29 lead at the break. The Blue Devils would struggle in the next quarter as the Cavaliers outscored the squad 26-6. This would lead to JCCC running away with the game late to come out with the win.
Guillory led the Blue Devils with 20 points.
KCKCC next plays on Wednesday at Neosho County CC at 5:30 p.m.
