CHANUTE, Kan. - The KCKCC women's basketball team had to make a last run at Neosho County CC Wednesday night and was unable to make the comeback as they fell 86-79.
The Blue Devils fall to 14-11 and 6-6 in the KJCCC.
The two squads fought to a 15-15 tie after the first quarter when Ikia Elam hit a basket and Neosho County drained a three-pointer as time expired. With both teams tied at 20-20 in the second quarter Elam and Jennifer Guilbeaux both made baskets to make it 24-20 Blue Devils. Things continued to stay close as both teams traded punch for punch and the score would be tied at 35-35 at halftime.
KCKCC fell behind 49-39 midway through the third quarter and the lead for Neosho County grew to 15 points toward the end of the frame. Trailing 78-60, the Blue Devils started to make a run scoring nine unanswered points capped off by a basket from Lacy Whitcomb. But the Blue Devils were unable to make it closer as Neosho closed it out in the final seconds.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday at Allen County CC at 2 p.m.
