BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced the 2021 East/Region 6 awards earlier this month and the Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils had four members named to the All-Conference squads. The team also recognized another five Blue Devil names who were named to the District Plains A Team.
Cassidy Crist led the Blue Devils earning First Team All-Jayhawk, while Nicole Hughes and Adriana Velez made Second Team and Trinity Holland was named an Honorable Mention. Crist, Velez and Hughes earned District First Team honors as well. Holland and Carlee Lill represented KCKCC on the Second Team All-District.
This season, Crist was the team's top hitter recording 464 kills and a 4.38 kills per set average (second best in the Conference). She also boasted 246 digs and 61 total blocks on defense in 32 matches played. Hughes appeared in 33 matches and led the team with an astounding 112 total blocks, while adding 201 kills and 87 digs.
Velez recorded a team high 966 assists and 8.78 assists per set, while slamming down 39 kills and finishing second on the team with 41 service aces. She also added 224 digs and 23 total blocks. Holland finished the year with 175 kills, 36 digs and 20 total blocks for KCKCC.
Lill would go on to post 170 kills and 2.93 kills per set along with 52 digs and 13 total blocks.
Cowley Community College's Iva Halacheva was named the All-Jayhawk Most Valuable Player and teammate Rossana Papa was the All-Jayhawk Freshman of the Year. The Tigers head coach Steven Gream was named the Coach of the Year.
