The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's soccer team hosted its home opener against the State Fair Roadrunners Aug. 28. Blue Devil striker, Lohan Poirier, has been on fire since coming to KCKCC. He has scored four goals in the opening three games with two against State Fair as the Blue Devils took them down 4-1.
The Roadrunners got on the board first, scoring in the 11th minute. The Blue Devils responded with an equalizer in the 30th minute when Damon Walter hit a hard struck ball on the ground to the left side of the goalkeeper with an assist from Bryan Moran. It took KCKCC just nine minutes to take the lead as Alan Nataren beat several State Fair defenders on the right side of the field and crossed it to a waiting Paul Rodriguez in the Roadrunner box to tap it in for a 2-1 lead. The score was 2-1 heading into halftime, but it took Poirier just six minutes to double the lead in the second half. Patrick Matosevic played a perfect chip through ball to Poirier for his first assist on the season. Poirier finished the scoring in the 54th minute with a hard hit shot with a cross from Bryan Moran. The Blue Devils outshot the Roadrunners 19 to 5 and KCKCC goalkeeper, Kleber Meneses Fabian recorded two saves from three of the shots on goal that he faced.
The next game for the Blue Devils men's soccer team is against the Southeast Community College at 7:30 p.m. Sep. 6 at the KCKCC soccer field.
