The No. 18 Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance at Breidenthal Court, defeating Mid-America Nazarene University 78–48 to improve to 12–4 on the season.
KCKCC controlled the game from start to finish, owning the paint with 48 points inside and forcing 17 turnovers that turned into 25 points. The Blue Devils led wire-to-wire and stretched their advantage to as many as 33 points in the fourth quarter.
KCKCC set the tone early with strong defensive pressure and efficient offense in the opening quarter. Yaslyn Gonzales opened the scoring with a layup, followed by a fastbreak finish from Kylee West after a steal. Kyara Bakker knocked down a three-pointer with just over three minutes remaining to push the lead to six, and despite a late push from the Pioneers, the Blue Devils closed the quarter ahead 16–11.
The second quarter showcased KCKCC's dominance in transition and in the paint. The Blue Devils scored 12 points inside and added eight more on fastbreak opportunities. Gonzales continued her strong play, converting multiple layups, including a fastbreak bucket at the 2:42 mark. KCKCC built a lead as large as 17 points and went into halftime firmly in control, 35–20.
The Blue Devils pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Mid-America Nazarene 19–8. Bakker jumpstarted the offense with an early jumper, while West capitalized on multiple fastbreak chances, including a layup assisted by Gonzales. Sandra Hracka capped the quarter with a three-pointer in the final minute, extending the Blue Devils' lead to 54–28 heading into the final frame.
The Blue Devils continued their momentum in the fourth quarter with relentless defense and balanced scoring. Hracka recorded a steal that led to a Gonzales layup early in the period, and Elin Bjarnadottir buried a three-pointer to further extend the lead. Bakker added points at the free-throw line, and Alana Webb completed a three-point play late to seal the victory as KCKCC cruised to a 33-point win.
West led all scorers with 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and added five steals. Gonzales finished with 13 points and four assists, while Hracka chipped in 12 points and a block. Meg Revol was a facilitator on both ends, recording six assists and three steals.
The next game for the Blue Devils will open conference play as they take on the Allen Community College Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at Breidenthal Court in the KCKCC Fieldhouse.
