The No.15 Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team fell in their conference opener to Allen Community College, 53-42, at Breidenthal Court. KCKCC struggled offensively, shooting 25.9% from the field and committing 15 turnovers. Despite forcing 23 turnovers and recording 12 steals, the Blue Devils were unable to overcome the Red Devils' 11-point lead established late in the fourth quarter.
The game opened with KCKCC taking an early lead with a 3-pointer by Kyara Bakker at 7:05, assisted by Amiyah Fulton. Sandra Hracka extended the lead to five with another 3-pointer at 4:07, assisted by Webb. Despite the strong start, the Red Devils managed to close the gap and ultimately took the lead with a layup by Weakley in the final seconds. The quarter ended with KCKCC trailing 8–7.
The Blue Devils experienced a key momentum shift midway through the second quarter, as Elin Bjarnadottir's 3-pointer at 8:03, assisted by Fulton, narrowed the gap to 11–10. Despite this effort, the Red Devils extended their lead to eight points by 5:41, prompting a timeout from KCKCC. Following the timeout, Hracka's two successful free throws at 5:20 and Kylee West's fast-break layup at 4:50 brought the score to 18–14, keeping the Blue Devils within reach. However, the Red Devils maintained their advantage, ending the quarter with a 22–18 lead.
Fulton initiated a strong start for the Blue Devils with an early jumper, narrowing the gap against the Red Devils. Hracka kept the momentum with a 3-pointer at 8:07, aided by a Fulton assist, pulling them closer. Despite a balanced scoring effort from both teams, KCKCC struggled to overtake the visitors as both teams finished the 3rd quarter with 12 points. The game concluded with the Red Devils leading 34–30.
KCKCC fought to narrow the margin during the fourth quarter, highlighted by Yaslyn Gonzales's steal and subsequent three-point play at 5:06, reducing the deficit to 40–35. Hracka added a layup at 3:30, assisted by West, bringing the score to 41–40. However, the Red Devils responded by extending their lead, and KCKCC was unable to close the gap. The game concluded with the Red Devils securing a 53–42 victory.
Hracka led the team with 12 points and contributed two blocks. West secured 10 rebounds and added four points. Fulton recorded six points, two steals and four assists. Gonzales added five points and three steals.
The next game for the Blue Devils is against the No.1 Johnson County Community College Cavaliers at 2:00 p.m. Jan. 17 at the JCCC gym in Overland Park, Kan.
