The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team fell to the No.1 Johnson County Community College Cavaliers, 103-51 on Saturday at the JCCC Gym. KCKCC struggled offensively, shooting just 31.3% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc. JCCC, maintaining their undefeated record, capitalized with a 60% field goal percentage and a dominant 46 points in the paint.
The game commenced with KCKCC taking an early lead thanks to Sandra Hracka's three-pointer assisted by Kylee West at 9:05. Hracka continued to contribute offensively, adding a layup to extend their lead to four points at the 8:27 mark. Despite their efforts, the Blue Devils encountered a scoring drought as the Cavaliers seized momentum, tying the score midway through the period and ultimately outpacing KCKCC. The first quarter concluded with JCCC leading 14–7.
The Blue Devils struggled to find momentum in the second quarter, as the Cavaliers extended their lead. Despite the efforts of Hracka, who scored a layup with 31 seconds remaining in the half, KCKCC was unable to close the gap. JCCC's Layla Scott's three-pointer at 1:05 capped a dominant stretch, helping them maintain control. The half concluded with KCKCC trailing 39–16.
The Blue Devils made a solid effort in the third quarter, scoring 24 points with notable contributions from Yaslyn Gonzales and Maia Kahura. Gonzales led a fast break with a three-pointer at 5:29 and added a jumper in the paint at 4:22, while Kahura connected on a three-pointer and later completed a three-point play with a layup and free throw at 1:29. Despite these efforts, JCCC maintained control, matching the Blue Devils scoring and closing the quarter with a 76–40 lead.
The Blue Devils struggled to contain the Cavaliers' offensive momentum in the final quarter. Hracka grabbed an early defensive rebound, and Gonzales contributed with a steal and four points, but KCKCC was unable to slow their opponent's scoring. Despite Kylee West and Alana Webb adding late points, the Cavaliers consistent scoring and a 53-point lead at 1:15 secured their control of the game.
The quarter ended with a 27-11 run by the Cavaliers, concluding the game with a final score of 103-51 in favor of JCCC.
Gonzales led with 12 points and two steals. Hracka contributed 12 points, converting two 3-pointers. Amiyah Fulton added seven points and recorded four assists. West collected seven rebounds and scored seven points.
The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Highland Community College Scotties at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at Breidenthal Court in the KCKCC Fieldhouse.
