Blue Devils Destroy Vikings

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team dominated the Missouri Valley College Varsity Reserve team, 76-30, at Breidenthal Court Monday. KCKCC forced 24 turnovers, converting them into 32 points, and secured a 54-30 advantage on the boards. The Blue Devils established a commanding 50-point lead with just under two minutes remaining in the game, aided by a robust 46 points in the paint. The Vikings struggled offensively, shooting just 18.9% from the field.

KCKCC opened the game with a commanding performance, quickly establishing control over the Vikings with a strong 24-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Blue Devils excelled in the paint, scoring 18 points inside, and converted turnovers into 11 points. Alana Webb played a pivotal role, contributing assists and defensive stops, while Kylee West added crucial rebounds and points. The Vikings struggled to find rhythm, making only 2 of 16 field goal attempts, as KCKCC's defense forced seven turnovers.

KCKCC extended their lead in the second quarter, fueled by a three-pointer from Webb at 8:07 and another by Elin Bjarnadottir at 4:56. The team capitalized on multiple turnovers by the Vikings, with West contributing a fast-break layup early in the quarter. Despite the Vikings' efforts to close the gap, including a three-pointer from Gilland, KCKCC maintained control. The quarter ended with a score of 38-18, favoring the Blue Devils.

KCKCC extended their lead in the third quarter with a decisive stretch, highlighted by Meg Revol's three-pointer at 3:57, widening the gap to 26 points. Earlier in the quarter, Amiyah Fulton's three-pointer and West's fast-break layup, both assisted by Webb, contributed significantly to the momentum. The Vikings struggled to close the gap, scoring only seven points in the quarter. The third quarter ended with KCKCC leading 49–25.

In the fourth quarter, KCKCC extended their dominance with a robust offensive performance, outscoring the Vikings 27-5. Kyara Bakker led the charge, contributing multiple rebounds and assists, including a critical defensive rebound at 2:33 followed by an assist to Webb for a layup. The Blue Devils capitalized on fast breaks, adding 14 fast break points in the quarter. They maintained a strong defensive presence, forcing numerous turnovers and limiting the Vikings to just two field goals. The game ended with KCKCC securing a decisive victory, 76-30.

Bakker led the team with 19 points, adding 12 rebounds and eight assists. Fulton contributed 13 points and recorded four assists, while also collecting two steals. West posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, along with four steals. Webb added nine points and provided five assists, finishing with three steals.

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Labette Community College Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 27 in Parsons, Kan.
