The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team fell to Fort Scott Community College 62-52 Saturday at Breidenthal Court. KCKCC forced 24 turnovers and scored 27 points off those opportunities but struggled with shooting, connecting on just 32.3% from the field. Fort Scott led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter and secured the win with a 32-29 rebounding advantage.
The Blue Devils started the quarter with early momentum, highlighted by Kylee West's fast-break layup at 9:30, assisted by Amiyah Fulton, giving them an initial lead. Despite their efforts, including strong rebounding with 10 total boards, they faced shooting challenges, converting only four of their 16 field goal attempts. Fort Scott regained control and extended their lead to 16–9 by the end of the quarter.
KCKCC sparked a momentum shift midway through the second quarter with Kyara Bakker's fast-break layup and subsequent free throw at 6:50, narrowing the margin to four points. Despite trailing early, Fulton's 3-pointer at 8:01 helped stabilize their scoring efforts. Fort Scott maintained their lead with consistent scoring, including a layup by Moss, extending their advantage to 30–23 by the end of the quarter. Both teams scored 14 points in the frame, leaving Fort Scott ahead as the half concluded.
Alana Webb's defensive efforts sparked the Blue Devils with a series of steals, converting turnovers into points, including two fast-break layups that narrowed Fort Scott's lead. However, despite these efforts, Fort Scott maintained control, using a late 10-point cushion to secure the quarter. The quarter ended with Fort Scott ahead, 41–31.
KCKCC rallied in the fourth quarter, cutting a 12-point deficit with a series of steals and fast-break layups. Webb and Bakker led a crucial run, reducing the gap to two points at 4:15 with a layup from Webb. Tensions remained high as Fort Scott managed to maintain their lead through free throws and defensive rebounds. Despite a late 3-pointer from Sandra Hracka, the Blue Devils fell short.
Webb led the effort with 21 points, converting 9-20 field goals, and added seven steals. Bakker scored nine points, collected three rebounds and recorded five steals. Fulton contributed eight points, including two 3-pointers and dished out three assists. Hracka pulled down eight rebounds and scored four points, including a 3-pointer.
The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Neosho County Community College Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in Chanute, Kan.
