The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's soccer team opened their season in Illinois with back-to-back games against Triton College and Morton College. Ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA DII Women's Soccer preseason poll, the Blue Devils dominated their first matchup, defeating Triton 7-0. However, they came up short in the second game, falling to Morton 1-0.
In the first game, the Blue Devils put up a whopping 46 shots, with 22 on goal. Daya Lou Homey started the scoring in the third minute with an assist from Kaitlyn Milford. Dani Willeford scored the next two goals in the 14th and 16th minutes with assists coming from Lillian Chronister and Adrianna Lara. Bella Liddick put one in the back of the net for the final goal in the first half in the 35th minute, assisted by Lou Homey. Homey started things off in the second half with a goal in the 56th minute. Elissa Green scored the final two goals in the game in the 70th and 72nd minute with assists from Adrianna Lara and Kinlee Smoot. The Blue Devil defense and combination of two goalkeepers, Lena Wasow and Mallory McWillie, who played one half each, didn't allow a goal.
In the second game, KCKCC outshot the Morton Panthers 45 to two but managed to fall with a first half goal from the Panthers. The Morton goalkeeper saved all 19 shots that the Blue Devils put on frame in the 90 minutes of play. Martina Barrera had seven of the shots and both Milford and Willeford had six shots each. McWillie played in the first half and the one goal got by her in the 15th minute. She had one save. Wasow played in net the second half and didn't see one shot.
The next game for the Blue Devils women's soccer team is the home opener against the State Fair Community College Roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the KCKCC Soccer Field.
