The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's soccer team hosted their home opener Aug. 28 against the State Fair Roadrunners at the KCKCC Soccer Field. Ranked No. 7, the Blue Devils dominated offensively with 33 total shots and 12 on goal, securing a 2-0 victory over the Roadrunners.
The scoring started off in the 12th minute as Dani Willeford beat a defender just inside the opponent's box, took a touch to her right and bent it around the right side of the goalkeeper to take an early 1-0 lead. On that goal, Kaitlyn Milford was able to record her second assist on the season. In the 41st minute, Bayli Benson won the ball from the center back position and was able to find Ivori Jones in stride toward the State Fair. Jones had a 50/50 collision with the keeper just outside the box but was able to find the ball and put it in the back of the net to double the Blue Devil lead. There were no goals in the second half but both Blue Devil goalkeepers were able to keep a clean sheet. Lena Wasow didn't see a single shot in the first half, while Mallory McWillie recorded one save in the second half.
The next game for the Blue Devils women's soccer team is against Metropolitan Community College at 5 p.m. Sep. 3 at the Paragon Star Sports Complex in Lee's Summit, Mo on field 1.
