No. 2 Blue Devils Push Streak to 11-0 After Red Ravens Sweep

The No. 2 Kansas City Kansas Community College volleyball team swept the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens with set scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-13 Sep.17 at Breidenthal Court during Family Fun Night/Luau Night. The Blue Devil team dominated with 19 service aces and held the Red Ravens to a negative hitting percentage of -.155. The match concluded in just 1 hour and 16 minutes, with the home team's strong blocking efforts contributing to a total of 9.5 blocks. This victory keeps KCKCC undefeated with an impressive 11-0 record, sharing the unbeaten status in the KJCCC only with Cowley College.

KCKCC opened Set 1 with a commanding 5-0 lead, fueled by three consecutive service aces by Veronica Rolando. Coffeyville attempted to respond with a 4-0 run, narrowing the score to 5-4. However, KCKCC regained momentum with a 5-1 run, highlighted by a kill from Avery Bejan and a service ace by Briazia Osborne, making it 10-6. Despite the Red Ravens' attempts to close the gap, another scoring streak from KCKCC, fueled by Osborne's two additional service aces, extended the lead to 23-14. KCKCC maintained control and secured the set with a 25-15 victory after capitalizing on Coffeyville's service error.

Set 2 saw KCKCC take control early against the Red Ravens, quickly establishing a 4-0 lead with kills by Valentina Rolando and Tatianna Murray, assisted by Veronica Rolando. The home team maintained momentum with a 6-1 run, including a service ace from Emily Fierro, extending their lead to 9-3. Coffeyville called a timeout at 16-7 following a service ace by Veronica Rolando but the Blue Devils continued to dominate, moving to a 19-7 advantage with a solid block from Sanoma Hunter and Murray. Despite a brief rally by the Red Ravens, the home team sealed the set, 25-12, with a final point resulting from an attack error by Ava Ashcroft.

In Set 3, KCKCC established an early lead over the Red Ravens, highlighted by a service ace from Veronica Rolando. The momentum continued with Valentina Rolando adding a service ace for a 5-1 advantage. KCKCC's strong serving persisted, as Hunter and Taryn Marcum each contributed consecutive service aces, pushing the score to 14-7. Coffeyville called a timeout to try and disrupt their rhythm. Despite the pause, KCKCC maintained control, with Mayah Pridgett and Zia Gonzales capitalizing on attack errors by the Red Ravens to extend the lead. KCKCC closed out the set decisively, 25-13, with Chavi Krehbiel's service ace sealing the victory.

Veronica Rolando recorded 17 assists and served six aces, contributing significantly to the team's efforts. Hunter led the team defensively with a total of five blocks, including one solo block. Valentina Rolando added seven kills and five digs over three sets. Osborne served four aces, complementing her two kills and four digs.

The No. 2 Blue Devils will return to action on Sep. 19, when they host the KCK Tournament at Breidenthal Court. KCKCC will open the day against No. 9 Iowa Central Community College at 2 p.m., followed by a matchup with Morton College at 6 p.m. inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse.
