No. 2 KCKCC Volleyball Remains Perfect

The Kansas City Kansas Community College volleyball team swept Labette Community College with set scores of 25-22, 25-22, 25-9 Oct. 8 at Breidenthal Court. The Blue Devils remain undefeated on the season and are tied with Cowley College in the KJCCC.

The first set began with KCKCC taking an early lead through a kill by Valentina Rolando. The Cardinals responded with a series of points, capitalizing on errors from the Blue Devils to lead 5-1. KCKCC fought back, with Briazia Osborne contributing a service ace to tie the score at 7-7. Labette then took a 14-11 lead, but the Blue Devils rallied, leveling the score at 14-14 with consecutive kills by Valentina Rolando. A critical series of service aces by Osborne pushed KCKCC ahead 21-19, prompting a timeout from the Cardinals. Despite their efforts to close the gap, the Blue Devils secured the set 25-22, concluding with a block by Sanoma Hunter and Tatianna Murray.

The Cardinals began the second set with momentum, gaining an early edge with a service ace by Charlotte Watson and a series of KCKCC errors. Amellia Oliver was instrumental for the Cardinals, contributing multiple kills, including one at 10-7. However, the Blue Devils responded with a strong sequence, highlighted by Murray's kill at 12-12, leading to a shift in momentum. KCKCC then capitalized on errors by the Cardinals and showcased effective offense, with Pridgett and Rolando contributing key points. Despite a late timeout call by Labette at 24-22, the Blue Devils secured the set victory at 25-22 with a final kill by Murray.

KCKCC took control early in the third set against Labette, capitalizing on consistent offensive plays. A series of kills by Pridgett and Rolando, complemented by two service aces from Johnson, put the Blue Devils ahead 13-5, prompting a Labette timeout. Despite attempts by the Cardinals to close the gap, KCKCC maintained their lead, aided by multiple attack errors from the Cardinals' side. The set concluded with Hunter securing the final point with a kill from a Veronica Rolando assist, sealing a decisive 25-9 victory for the Blue Devils.

Valentina Rolando contributed significantly with 10 kills on 19 attempts, achieving a hitting percentage of .421 and adding 11 digs. Osborne was effective from the service line, delivering five aces and tallying 10 assists. Veronica Rolando facilitated the offense with 25 assists and recorded seven digs. Murray posted eight kills on 15 swings, complemented by two block assists.
