BLUE DEVILS HOME WEDNESDAY, SATURDAY AFTER 'FOUL' LOSS AT HIGHLAND
Scoring the most field goals is not always enough as Kansas City Kansas Community College's Blue Devils found out in dropping an 81-73 Jayhawk Conference Division II decision at Highland Saturday.
The Blue Devils finished with a 26-24 advantage in field goals but the Scotties converted 21 of 35 free throws to 12 of 20 for KCKCC and drained 12 of 28 three-pointers to 9 of 18 for KCKCC.
The loss in the Blue Devils ' 16th road game of the season left them 6-16 heading into back-to-back home games this week against Brown Mackie Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Hesston Saturday at 4 p.m.
Leading 37-36 at halftime, Highland's men (11-11) took advantage of 26 KCKCC fouls to pull away in the second half. Just one Blue Devil fouled out but four others had four fouls each.
Freshmen Marcus Allen and Lucas Smith led KCKCC), Allen with 22 points and 11 rebounds and Smith with 20 points and six rebounds. Stephen Leimbach and Anthony Ridley added eight points each and Collin Adney seven. Ridley also led in assists with four. Teamwise, KCKCC had a .473-.453 edge in field goal shooting, Highland had the edge in rebounds 38-32 and turnovers were almost dead even (14-13).
