LATE TURNOVERS COSTLY IN KCKCC's 70-65 LOSS TO HESSTON
The Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils committed just 10 turnovers Monday and only four the second half. Unfortunately, two came in the final minute of a 70-65 loss to Hesston.
Ahead 48-42 with 14 minutes left, the Blue Devils were down just 66-65 when Hesston converted the two mistakes and a desperation missed 3-pointer into four free throws to seal the win. The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 6-18 heading into a game at Fort Scott Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
KCKCC also led 23-15 early only to have Hesston run off the next 10 points and it was nip-and-tuck the rest of the way in a game that had seven ties and seven lead changes. Both teams shot well the second half, Hesston hitting 53.5 percent and KCKCC 51.9 percent but while the Blue Devils were forcing 17 Hesston turnovers, they were outrebounded 35-17 by the lankier Larks.
Freshman forward Lucas Smith turned in a tremendous effort to lead KCKCC, scoring 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting. Clay Young and Stephen Leimbach each added 12 points and Anthony Ridley 10 and five assists.
