BLUE DEVILS SUFFER THIRD LAST SECOND LOSS IN A ROW
Unlike horseshoes and hand grenades, coming close in a 61-60 loss at Hesston Saturday doesn't account for anything more than a defeat.
Still winless in Jayhawk Conference play, it was third straight game the Blue Devils had gone to the wire, the one-point loss coming on the heels of a 63-61 loss to Johnson County and a 58-56 setback to Highland.
The Blue Devils will get one last regular season shot Wednesday when they host Fort Scott at 7 p.m. before entering playoff action Saturday at either Fort Scott or Hesston.
"We had three chances to win, a last second shot and two tips," said KCKCC Coach Kelley Newton of the loss at Hesston. Leading 29-26 at halftime, the Blue Devils (6-23) were still up by four points late only to be undone by critical turnovers and 32.8 percent shooting.
KCKCC got a big performance from Marcus Allen, who scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Clay Young added 12 points and six rebounds, Stephen Leimbach nine points and five rebounds, Lucas Smith nine rebounds and Anthony Ridley five points and six assists.
