A spectacular 6-under par 65 by sophomore Josiah Morris highlighted Kansas City Kansas Community College's fall golf tournament debut.
The 65 was the lowest round of the annual Hesston Tournament and vaulted the Coyle, Okla., native into a tie for 10th in the 54-hole tournament. Morris started with back-to-back rounds of 78 before the sizzling 65 vaulted him into the Top 10 at 219.
Perennial Jayhawk Conference power Barton County took team honors with an 855 that was 16 strokes better than host Hesston College (881). Murray State (884) nipped Central Christian College of Kansas by a stroke for third followed by Fort Scott, 900; Park University and Northeast Nebraska, both 903; Murray State B, 913; KCKCC 919; Bethel College, 965 and Central Christian B.
Keenan Unruh, a freshman from Overland Park, tied for 28th with a 74-82-73-229 for KCKCC followed by sophomore Turner Depperschmidt of Washburn Rural, 32nd (77-76-78-231); sophoore Jack Stuckey of Goddard, 47th (79-84-78-241) and sophomore Maddox Hight of Washburn Rural, 59th (87-83-80-250).
The Blue Devils are now idle until they compete in the Ottawa University Tournament at Eagle Bend in Lawrence Sept. 13.
