The Kansas City Kansas Community College volleyball team started their season on the road in the Opening Weekend Tournament in Rockford, Ill. The Blue Devils played four matches, winning all four, including two, top-25 wins over No. 6 Gulf Coast State and No. 24 Rock Valley. The two other teams they took down were Hawkeye and Edison State.
In the first match, the Blue Devils swept Hawkeye Community College with set scores of 26-17, 25-23 and 25-12. Freshman outside hitter, Valentina Rolando, led the team with nine kills on 17 total attempts. Sophomore setter, Briazia Osborne, led the team in assists with 11 and tallied two service aces. Veronica Rolando had a team-high seven aces as she furthered her Kansas City Kansas Community College Volleyball service ace record. Sanoma Hunter had two solo blocks, two block assists and two service aces.
In the second match, the Blue Devils fought the No. 6 Gulf Coast State Commodores in a rematch from the 2025 NJCAA DII Women's Volleyball quarterfinal match where the Blue Devils ended their season in a five-set thriller. This time, it only took the Blue Devils four sets to take down the Commodores with set scores of 20-25, 25-13, 25-23 and 25-17. Valentina Rolando once again led the team in kills with 13. Hunter had eight and Mayah Pridgett had seven. Veronica Rolando had a team-high 17 assists while adding five more service aces and 16 digs. Hunter added five block assists, Teagan Canady had three, Avery Bejan had two and Valentina Rolando had one.
In the third match, Hunter led the team in kills (10), block assists (6) and digs (6) as KCKCC swept the Edison State Chargers with set scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-15. Pridgett added seven kills from 14 total attempts and Veronica Rolando managed to add 19 assists and five more service aces. Ava Johnson also had four service aces while recording two kills and three digs. Sophomore defensive specialist, Ava Rann, had a team-high eight digs.
In the fourth and final match, the Blue Devils stayed hot and swept the No. 24 Rock Valley Golden Eagles with set scores of 25-21, 25-12 and 25-13. Hunter led the team with eight kills while Pridgett, Valentina Rolando and Bejan all recorded five kills. Veronica Rolando and Osborne combined 23 assists and four service aces. Johnson had a team-high three service aces along with two digs. Hunter had a team-high five block assists and Tatianna Murray recorded four block assists and one solo block with three kills.
The No. 4 KCKCC Blue Devil Volleyball team is going to look to move up in the upcoming NJCAA rankings as both the second and third ranked teams fell in the opening weekend. KCKCC will be back in action next weekend at the Pensacola State Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. where they will take on Roane State, Gadsden State, Pearl River and Pensacola State.
