No. 4 Volleyball Sweeps the Weekend in Florida

The Kansas City Kansas Community College volleyball team spent the weekend in Pensacola, Fla. as part of the Pensacola State College Invitational. The Blue Devils played four matches, sweeping all four, including a top-10 win over No.10 Pensacola State. The three other teams they swept were Roane State, Gadsden State and Pearl River.

In the first match, KCKCC took down Roane State in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-15. There were three Blue Devils who had eight kills each - Tatianna Murray, Mayah Pridgett and Valentina Rolando. Veronica Rolando had a team-high 16 assists along with 11 digs and four service aces. Ava Rann earned a team-high 15 digs and tallied one service ace. 

In the second match, the Blue Devils took down Gadsden State with scores of 25-8, 25-19 and 25-12. Once again, Murray and Valentina Rolando both shared a team-high in kills with seven. Teagan Canady, Avery Bejan and Sanoma Hunter all had two block assists, and they tallied 10 as a team. Veronica Rolando led the team with 16 assists and seven service aces.

In the third match, Valentina Rolando helped boost the Blue Devils to a sweep over Pearl River with set scores of 25-10, 25-9 and 25-20. Valentina Rolando secured a team-high nine kills with three service aces, eight digs and one solo block. Her sister, Veronica Rolando, once again had 16 assists, two service aces and two digs. Bejan tied with a team-high three services aces and recorded one kill. Zia Gonzales had three kills on four total attempts and had one dig.

In the fourth and final match, the Blue Devils were set to take on their toughest opponent on the weekend, No.10 Pensacola State College. Pridgett recorded a weekend-high 12 kills and helped KCKCC to a sweep over the Pirates with set scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-17. Bejan had a career-high seven kills from 12 attempts and had one block assist. Veronica Rolando had 23 assists, and Briazia Osborne recorded 14 assists and 10 digs.

The No. 4 KCKCC Blue Devil Volleyball will begin conference play with a tough matchup against 8-1 Allen County at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 in Iola.
