The No. 5 Kansas City Kansas Community College volleyball team swept Highland Community College 25-22, 25-14, 25-19 Nov. 9 for the 2025 Plains District A Tournament Championship. With the win, KCKCC punched their ticket to the 2025 NJCAA DII Volleyball National Tournament. The Blue Devils displayed a strong serving performance with 12 aces, while their effective blocking contributed to a total of 10 team blocks. The Scotties struggled offensively, hitting just .073, as KCKCC controlled the match from start to finish.
KCKCC opened the first set with an assertive start, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead with contributions from Tatianna Murray and Trinaty Fansher. Highland responded, tying the score at 15-15 following a service ace from Hallie Holthaus. The Blue Devils then regained momentum, with Valentina Rolando and Briazia Osborne securing critical points. A late surge from the Scotties, including kills from Harlee Blackwell, brought them within two points. However, an attack error by Cali Honeyman concluded the set, allowing KCKCC to clinch it 25-22.
KCKCC displayed a commanding performance in the second set, opening with a strong offensive display led by Sanoma Hunter, who registered two early kills. Murray contributed with back-to-back service aces, extending the lead to 8-2 and prompting a timeout from Highland. Mayah Pridgett and Hunter combined effectively at the net, recording several blocks that disrupted Highland's attack. Valentina Rolando's service aces further widened the gap to 23-11. Although the Scotties managed a few late points, Veronica Rolando sealed the set with a decisive kill, ending it at 25-14.
Valentina Rolando was instrumental in the third set as the Blue Devils secured a 25-19 victory. KCKCC opened with a 4-1 lead, capitalizing on attack errors by the visitors. The third set was tied 18-18 but the Blue Devils were able to finish it with a 7-1 run, featuring a service ace by Osborne and a kill by Avery Bejan. Valentina Rolando sealed the set with a service ace.
Valentina Rolando led the team with 12 kills and five service aces, contributing 17.5 points. Pridgett recorded seven blocks and added four kills to her performance. Hunter posted eight kills and five block assists in the match. Veronica Rolando directed the offense with 15 assists while adding five kills on a .714 attack percentage.
The Blue Devils will move on to the National Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where the first round will begin Nov. 19. KCKCC will learn their seeding Nov. 12 during the NJCAA DII Volleyball Selection Show.
