15th Season
Now entering her 15th season at the helm of Kansas City Kansas Community College Volleyball, Coach Mary Bruno Ballou has built one of the premier NJCAA Division II volleyball programs in the country. With a career total of 297 wins, she is just three victories away from reaching 300 career wins, a milestone that reflects her enduring impact and sustained excellence at KCKCC.
A Record-Breaking 2024 Season
The 2024 season marked the best year in KCKCC Volleyball history. After earning an at-large bid to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, the Blue Devils made a historic run—advancing to the 3rd place match and finishing 4th in the nation, the program’s highest national placement ever. Despite a tight five-set battle in the bronze medal match, the Blue Devils proved they were among the best in the country.
With a solid core of returners and national experience, Coach Ballou’s squad is already looking ahead to another national push in 2025.
Program Legacy
Since taking over the program, Coach Ballou has led KCKCC to:
- 14 consecutive Region Tournament appearances
- 8 Region Final appearances
- 2 Region Championships (2012 & 2014)
- 1 At-Large Bid to the National Tournament
- 3 NJCAA National Tournament Top-10 Finishes
-
- 6th in 2012
- 9th in 2014
- 4th in 2024
Her program has produced over 50 all-conference and all-region players, along with 10 NJCAA All-Americans and 3 NJCAA National All-Tournament Team honorees. Year after year, her athletes leave KCKCC as stronger players, students, and leaders.
A Culture of Family
At the heart of Coach Ballou’s success is a deeply rooted family culture. The KCKCC Volleyball program emphasizes connection, trust, and support—creating an environment where players thrive on and off the court. Whether it’s overcoming personal challenges or celebrating team victories, the bond between players, coaches, and fellow athletes is unbreakable.
That same sense of family is central in Coach Ballou’s personal life. She and her husband, Austin, are proud parents to three young children: Bella (4), John (3), and Luca (10 months). Her experience as both a mother and coach shapes her leadership style—compassionate, focused, and built on lifelong mentorship.
KCKCC Volleyball isn’t just a program—it’s a community. And under Coach Ballou’s leadership, it continues to rise, compete, and inspire—with career win #300 now within reach.
