Red-shirt freshman, Christian Arnold has been waiting for this day for the past 18 months. Christian sat all of 2013 as a red-shirt and unleashed all of his pent up baseball in one game. He would end the day 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's and just a double away from hitting for the cycle. He led off the second inning with a triple and would come across to score the Blue Devil's first run of the year off the bat of Daniel LaMunyon. Arnold would single in his next at-bat, driving in Eric Hinostroza, who walked to lead off the third. Eric stole second to set up Arnold's first career RBI.
Starter, EJ Merlo was strong in 7 innings of work. He would only give up 1 earned run while scattering 7 hits and striking out 3. Merlo would give way to freshman, Preston Bailey, clinging to a 1 run lead in the 8th. Bailey would pick up the 6 out save after Arnold gave KCK some added cushion. With 1 out in the 9th Christian blasted a 3 run, homerun to seal the deal.
8 Blue Devils would record hits in the opener as KCK scored 6 runs on 10 hits and swiping 4 bags.
