No.1 Cavaliers Give Blue Devils Struggles

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team fell to the No.1 Johnson County Community College in both games of a doubleheader on Thursday, with final scores of 12–1 and 18–4. In the first game, KCKCC managed just one run in the opening inning, while JCCC scored six runs in the first and added four more in the fifth inning. In the second game, despite the loss, the Blue Devils hit one home run and tallied five hits.

In the first game, Caden Howell started for KCKCC, pitching 1.0 inning and allowing six earned runs on five hits, including two home runs, while issuing four walks. Howell did not record any strikeouts and took the loss, bringing his record to 4–2. Nick Martensen relieved Howell, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits with three walks. Martensen struck out three batters and allowed one home run during his outing.

Brady Kern recorded one hit, scored a run, and successfully stole a base. Owen Musil contributed with a hit and drove in a run. Lennox Vann added to the offense with a double among his hits.

In the second game, Dylan Blazer pitched for 3.0 innings, allowing six earned runs on six hits, including two home runs, and recorded two strikeouts and two walks. Lucas Clarke entered in relief but faced difficulties, surrendering three earned runs on two hits and two home runs in just .1 inning. Tanner Warner closed out the effort, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on five hits, with two walks and two strikeouts, while giving up one home run. The pitching staff struggled against the opposing lineup, allowing a total of three home runs across the outing.

Musil delivered a strong performance by hitting a home run and driving in two runs. Vann contributed with a double and scored a run. Sawyer Tolk reached base with a hit and a hit-by-pitch, adding one run to the scoreboard.

The Blue Devils will finish their series with a double header against the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers at 1 p.m. April 18 at the KCKCC Baseball Field.
