Baseball Set for Postseason Play

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team faced Cowley College in a doubleheader on Saturday, experiencing a stark contrast between the two games.

 In the first game, KCKCC fell to Cowley College, managing only one hit in the contest. The Tigers capitalized with two runs in both the third and fifth innings, while their pitching staff recorded eight strikeouts and limited KCKCC to two walks. Donovan Johnson pitched effectively for the Blue Devils, completing 2.0 innings with one hit, no walks, and one strikeout, needing just 22 pitches. Nick Martensen faced challenges in his 2.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on three hits and two walks, with two hit batters, resulting in a loss. Sebastian Udland contributed 1.1 innings, issuing two walks and throwing 37 pitches. Tyler Parr closed with two strikeouts in 0.2 of an inning, requiring only 10 pitches.

The only Blue Devil hit came from Colton Kirkham, his sixth double on the season.

In the second game, KCKCC secured a decisive 7–1 victory over Cowley. The Blue Devils collected 13 hits, including six doubles, while limiting the Tigers to just seven hits in the matchup. Camden Brashear pitched 5.1 innings, allowing only one earned run on five hits while striking out three batters and issuing three walks. He threw 91 pitches, 55 of which were strikes, and earned the win with a 1-0 record. Caden Howell came in as a reliever, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up two hits, and striking out four batters while walking three. Howell efficiently managed his outing with 64 pitches, securing the save for the Blue Devils.

Sawyer Tolk recorded two runs and three hits, including two doubles. Reid Oakley contributed with four hits and one RBI, featuring two doubles. Ian Woita notched three RBIs, adding a double to his performance.

The Blue Devils enter the 2026 NJCAA Plains District Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 14 Colby Community College in a best-of-three series at the KCKCC Baseball Field.

First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on May 7, with games continuing May 8 and May 9 (if necessary).

The winner of the series advances to Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kan., for the double-elimination Plains District Tournament, scheduled for May 13–17.
