The three-seeded Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team edged the ten-seeded Barton Community College Cougars with a 14-12 victory in a high-scoring contest at Eck Stadium on Thursday. The Blue Devils amassed 17 hits, including four home runs, to secure the win.
Will Kennedy started strong for KCKCC, pitching 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts and allowing five earned runs on eight hits, including one home run. Carter Beach followed, pitching 1.0 inning and striking out two batters, but he also allowed two earned runs and threw two wild pitches. The bullpen had a challenging outing, with Sebastian Udland and Caden Howell combining to allow five earned runs in just 1.0 inning of work. Lucas Clarke closed the game effectively, pitching a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout and earning the save. When Clarke entered the game, the bases were loaded with no outs and just a two-run lead.
Brady Kern scored three runs, collected two hits, drove in two runs, and hit a home run while also adding two stolen bases. The Blue Devils advance in the winner's bracket and will take on the fifth-seeded Cowley Tigers at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The Tigers upset the one-seeded Johnson County on Thursday night with a final score of 11-5, ending the Cavalier 41 game win streak.
