Blue Devils Fall to No. 1 JCCC, Set for Winner-Take-All Plains District Championship

The three-seeded Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team fell to the nation's No.1 and one-seeded Johnson County Community College Cavaliers in a high-scoring contest, 15–10, on Saturday at Eck Stadium. The Blue Devils recorded 13 hits, including a home run and a triple, but could not overcome the Cavaliers' offensive surge.

Dylan Blazer started for KCKCC, pitching 3.1 innings while allowing seven earned runs on nine hits, striking out five, and issuing one walk. Nick Martensen relieved Blazer, pitching 1.2 innings and conceding four runs on four hits, including two home runs, while striking out two. Tyler Parr pitched one inning, giving up two earned runs with two walks and one strikeout. Lucas Clarke and Cohen Epler combined for 1.2 innings, each allowing one earned run, while Kirby Super finished the game by facing one batter, throwing three pitches.

Ian Woita made a significant impact by recording three hits, including a home run, and driving in two runs. His first at-bat in the game was a two-run homer to left field, to take an early 2-0 lead. Brady Kern contributed with a triple and scored twice, showcasing his ability to reach base and advance. Owen Musil added two hits with a double, scoring twice and driving in one run. Braden Horn also delivered with a crucial two-run performance, adding to the offensive efforts.

The Blue Devils will face the Cavaliers tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Eck Stadium with the 2026 Plains District Championship on the line. With both teams carrying one loss in the double-elimination tournament, tomorrow's winner-take-all matchup will determine who punches their ticket to Grand Junction and the NJCAA DI Baseball World Series.
