Blue Devils March on Spires

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team defeated the University of Saint Mary JV team 97-47 Dec. 2 at Breidenthal Court. KCKCC dominated the game, leading by as many as 52 points in the second half. The home team shot 55.1% from the field, with their bench contributing 58 points. The Spires struggled offensively, shooting just 26.6% from the field and managing only 47 points overall.

The Blue Devils started the first half with strong offensive play, quickly overcoming an early two-point deficit. Anthony Leonard's fastbreak layup at 18:47 tied the game, and Kamoni Ford's 3-pointer at 15:46 gave the team a lead they would not relinquish. KCKCC capitalized on turnovers and fastbreak opportunities, extending their advantage significantly with contributions from multiple players.

Ford added another 3-pointer at 13:30, further increasing the lead. By the end of the half, KCKCC had built a commanding 31-point advantage, leading 49-18 over the Spires.

KCKCC extended their lead with a dominant stretch early in the second half, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Leonard at 17:48, assisted by Ali Booker, pushing the score to 56–23. The team capitalized on their paint presence, scoring 26 points inside and maintained their advantage through effective rebounding, finishing the game with a 28–15 edge on the boards. Malik Lewis contributed significantly with multiple fastbreak layups, adding to the scoring surge.

Despite attempts from the Spires to close the gap, KCKCC's bench provided a significant impact, contributing 25 points. The home team maintained their momentum, concluding the half with a 48–29 advantage, bringing the final score to 97–47 in favor of KCKCC.

Leonard scored 17 points, converting 7-11 field goal attempts and added six rebounds and four assists. Ford tallied 16 points, making four 3-pointers and securing five rebounds. Jaxson Malvo recorded 16 points, hitting 7-11 shots, while also collecting five rebounds and two steals in his season opener. Booker contributed with seven assists and four points, enhancing the team's playmaking efforts.

The next game for the Blue Devils is against Southeast at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 in Lincoln, Neb.
