Blue Devils Get Revenge on Scotties

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team edged Highland Community College Scotties, 69-64 Saturday at Ben Allen Field House. KCKCC built an early advantage, leading by as many as 15 points and holding off a late rally by Highland. The Blue Devils capitalized on its 87.5% free-throw shooting, making 21 of 24 attempts, while forcing eight turnovers that contributed to 11 points off turnovers.

KCKCC opened the game assertively, racing to a 6–0 lead within the first two minutes. Malik Lewis scored a layup and added two free throws to contribute early. Jameson Fischer extended the lead with a three-pointer at 18:09, and Ta'Veaion Washington's steal and dunk at 11:58 pushed the score to 15–8. Midway through the period, KCKCC maintained its momentum with Andrew Tiemeyer's fast-break layup at 6:12, increasing the lead to 19–14. The final minutes saw Washington hit a three-pointer with 38 seconds left, capping a strong offensive showing. The half ended with the Blue Devils leading 32–22.

KCKCC maintained its lead throughout the second half, beginning with Tiemeyer converting two free throws at 19:48 to extend the margin. Washington contributed significantly, hitting a jumper at 17:20 and later assisting with a fast-break layup by Lewis at 6:51. Despite the Scotties' attempts to close the gap with a late 3-pointer by Thomas, KCKCC held firm. Ali Booker sealed the game with a layup and two free throws, ending the game with a 69–64 victory.

Washington led the way with 20 points, shooting 66.7% from the field and added nine rebounds and four assists. Lewis contributed 19 points, making 8 of his 9 free throws, and secured two rebounds. Darren McHenry posted 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, also collecting four rebounds. Booker added six points and recorded three rebounds, converting all four of his free throw attempts.

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Labette Community College Cardinals at 3 p.m. Feb. 21 at Breidenthal Court in the KCKCC Fieldhouse.
