Men’s Basketball Falls in Opening Round

The fifth seeded Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team fell to the fourth seeded Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds with a final score of 63-76 in the opening round of the 2026 NJCAA Division 2 Region VI Men's Basketball Tournament. KCKCC led by as much as seven points early in the first half but struggled to maintain momentum. Despite hitting 38.1% from three-point range, the Blue Devils could not overcome their 16 turnovers. The Greyhounds capitalized on these mistakes, converting them into 21 points and maintaining a consistent lead throughout the second half to secure the win.

KCKCC opened the game with a strong offensive effort, highlighted by Ta'Veaion Washington's early jumper and 3-pointer that helped the Blue Devils build multiple early leads. Malik Lewis added a 3-pointer and a layup to push KCKCC to its largest advantage of the half, 14-7, at the 14:46 mark. Fort Scott responded with efficient shooting and closed the half on a run to take a 38-31 lead into the break.

In the second half, KCKCC briefly regained the lead at the 14:09 mark following a 3-pointer from Kamoni Ford, assisted by Washington. The Greyhounds answered quickly, reclaiming the advantage and holding off the Blue Devils down the stretch. A late 3-pointer by Anthony Leonard was not enough to spark a comeback as Fort Scott pulled away for the win.

Leonard led KCKCC with 16 points on 6-14 shooting and added two steals. Washington finished with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Lewis contributed 13 points on 4-6 shooting and went 4-5 from the free-throw line. Jameson Fischer added 10 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and grabbing nine rebounds.

The Blue Devils finish the 2025-26 season with an overall record of 17-14 and conference record of 6-6.
