Softball Sweeps Ellsworth Sunday

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC softball team got back on the winning end as they took two games from Ellsworth on Sunday. The Blue Devils defeated the Panthers 16-8 in five innings and 6-5 in the second game.

KCKCC is now 4-6 on the year.

After allowing a run in the top of the first inning, the Blue Devils put six runs on the board in the bottom half. KCKCC took an 8-1 lead after two innings, before the Panthers added six runs in the third to tie the score. The Blue Devils then added five runs in the third and three in the fifth on a walk-off home run, where the team won the game due to the run-rule.

Savannah Short added a triple and a home run in the game, while Stella Harber also added a home run. Karson Hassan added the win in the circle.

KCKCC scored the first three runs in the second game before Ellsworth cut the deficit to one run in the fourth. After the Blue Devils went up 4-2 in the fourth frame, Ellsworth took a 5-4 lead after scoring three runs in the fifth. But the Blue Devils tied the game in the bottom of the inning and took the lead in the sixth – eventually leading them to the win.

Gabrielle King and Short had three hits each. King and Harber also added two RBI. Landri Lopez was credited with the win.

The Blue Devils return to action Tuesday when they host North Dakota State College of Science at 1 and 3 p.m.
