Hartman Clutches Up for Blue Devil Softball

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team swept the Northeast Community College Hawks with final scores of 4-3 in both games.

In the first game, Rebecca Castillo pitched three innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out one. She faced 16 batters without issuing a walk and posted a 1.67 WHIP. Alaina Mendez earned the win in relief, tossing four innings with a 1.00 ERA. She allowed two hits and one earned run while striking out six and finishing with a 0.75 WHIP.

Brenli Baker hit a home run, driving in one run and scoring once. Maddy Crawford collected three hits, including two doubles, and added an RBI. Paige Smith recorded two hits, scored once and drove in a run.

In the second game, Makayla Ekis pitched one inning, allowing three hits and two earned runs, including a home run, without issuing a walk. Castillo threw four strong innings, surrendering two hits and one earned run while striking out one and recording a 0.50 WHIP. Mendez closed the game, pitching two scoreless innings while allowing two hits and striking out two. She improved to 2-0 on the season and posted a 0.25 WHIP in appearance.

Mary Stephens recorded two stolen bases, added two hits and scored once. Baker tallied three hits and finished with a 1.500 OPS. Kaitlyn Cowan contributed two hits and an RBI while scoring once. Austyn Hartman powered the offense with a home run and a double, driving in two runs and recording her first collegiate walk-off winner.
