The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team faced a tough day against McCook Community College, falling in both doubleheader games on Saturday, with scores of 3-2 and 9-2.
In the first game, KCKCC hit a home run, but McCook used a three-run third inning to secure the win. Rebecca Castillo pitched three innings, allowing five hits and three runs while walking one and striking out one. She finished with a 2.00 WHIP. Gabby Pemberton was strong in relief, tossing three innings and allowing just one hit with three strikeouts and no runs. She posted a 0.33 WHIP. Alaina Mendez added one inning, allowing one walk and striking out one without surrendering a run. Brenli Baker hit a home run, driving in one run and scoring once. Abryelle Hill added a hit and scored a run.
In the second game, KCKCC collected nine hits, including a double, but could not overcome McCook's offense. Castillo pitched two innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits, including a home run, while walking one. Pemberton delivered 3.1 innings of relief, striking out three and allowing just one walk, finishing with a 0.32 WHIP. Mendez pitched 1.2 innings, giving up six earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Mary Stephens recorded two hits and scored once. Paige Smith added two hits and a walk. Baker reached base three times with a hit, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.
The next series for the Blue Devils is against the State Fair Community College Roadrunners starting at 1 p.m. March 4 at the KCKCC Softball Field.
