The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team had a successful doubleheader against North Central Missouri College Monday at Griffen Field, winning the first game 15–5 and the second game 10–1. In the first game, KCKCC delivered a dominant 20-hit performance, including four doubles and a triple, while in the second game, they collected 12 hits, featuring two home runs, and scored in each of the last five innings.
In game 1, Rebecca Castillo pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out two batters and issuing eight walks. She faced 31 batters and gave up two home runs, contributing to a WHIP of 2.75. Gabby Pemberton entered in relief, pitching .2 innings and allowing one hit to the three batters she faced, resulting in a WHIP of 5.00.
Sidney Sullivan scored five runs and collected four hits, including two doubles, while driving in two runs. Mary Stephens also recorded four hits, contributing three runs and two RBIs, while adding two stolen bases. Kaitlyn Cowan posted three hits and drove in four runs, including a sacrifice fly. Brenli Baker added two hits and three RBIs, highlighted by a double.
In game 2, Pemberton delivered an impressive performance in the circle for KCKCC in the second game, pitching a complete game over 6 innings. She allowed only 3 hits and no earned runs, showcasing her control by issuing no walks. Pemberton struck out 2 batters and maintained a low WHIP of 0.50, contributing significantly to her team's defensive efforts.
Sullivan scored two runs and hit a home run, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output in the second game. Abryelle Hill recorded three RBIs and hit two doubles, showcasing her effectiveness at the plate. Maddy Crawford tallied two RBIs and also hit a home run.
The next series for the Blue Devils will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. March 26 against the Highland Community College Scotties in Highland, Kan.
