The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team swept the Highland Community College Scotties on Thursday, securing a decisive 16–6 victory in the first game and a commanding 13–2 win in the second game. The doubleheader showcased a powerful offensive performance from KCKCC, highlighted by a combined 31 hits and multiple home runs.
In the first game, KCKCC exploded in the fourth inning, scoring eight runs and finishing with 17 hits overall. Rebecca Castillo started in the circle, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs, including one home run, while striking out two batters. She faced 18 batters and issued two walks, ending with a WHIP of 2.26. Gabby Pemberton came in as relief, pitching 1.2 innings, surrendering four hits and two earned runs, also allowing one home run. Pemberton faced 10 batters and struck out one, finishing with a WHIP of 3.33.
Offensively, Sidney Sullivan shone brightly with a home run, driving in three RBIs and scoring two runs. Mary Stephens contributed significantly with three runs scored and two hits, while Brenli Baker added two hits and three RBIs, including a double. Kaitlyn Cowan excelled with three hits and two RBIs, scoring twice as well.
In the second game, pitcher Makayla Ekis delivered a stellar performance, pitching a complete game over five innings. She allowed just four hits and one earned run while striking out four batters, showing excellent control with only one walk against 22 batters faced, resulting in a WHIP of 1.00. Although she surrendered a home run, her efforts solidified the team's dominant performance.
Offensively, Austyn Hartman led the charge with five RBIs and a home run. Abryelle Hill contributed with two hits, including a home run, and added two RBIs. Baker continued her strong showing by reaching base frequently, drawing three walks and tallying two RBIs.
The next series for the Blue Devils will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. March 28 against the St. Louis Community College Foxes at the KCKCC Softball Field.
