The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team had an impressive doubleheader against Fort Scott Community College, securing victories with scores of 11–6 and 5–1 on Thursday.
In the first game, the Blue Devil offense was powered by five home runs, contributing to its 15-hit performance. Brenli Baker shone with two hits, including a home run, driving in four runs. Mary Stephens collected three hits, scored twice, and added a stolen base. Marissa Temple also made her mark with four hits, including a home run, and tallied two runs, while Paige Smith hit a home run and drove in two runs. On the mound, Rebecca Castillo pitched 4.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out three batters. Gabby Pemberton faced difficulties, conceding three runs on three hits, including a home run, without recording an out. Alaina Mendez provided effective relief, pitching three innings, allowing just one hit and one walk, with two strikeouts, maintaining a WHIP of 0.67.
In the second game, KCKCC continued their strong performance by accumulating 10 hits, highlighted by a home run and a triple, while keeping the Greyhounds to just four hits. Castillo pitched a strong game, delivering 5.0 innings without allowing an earned run, giving up just three hits and issuing two walks, while striking out one and maintaining a WHIP of 1.00. Mendez came in as relief, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing one earned run on one hit, striking out two, and also finishing with a WHIP of 1.00. Sidney Sullivan contributed significantly by scoring two runs and hitting a home run. Kaitlyn Cowan added to the team's efforts with two RBIs and a run scored, while Smith made an impact with a triple, scoring one run and driving in another.
The next series for the Blue Devils will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. April 7 against the Southwestern Community College Spartans at the KCKCC Softball Field.
