The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team triumphed in a doubleheader against Neosho County Community College, winning the first game 7–4 and the second game 5–1. The first game was highlighted by a powerful offensive display, featuring two home runs and a five-run first inning, while the second game capitalized on the Panthers' four errors and showcased a solid pitching performance.
In the first game, KCKCC recorded 10 hits and stole three bases. Rebecca Castillo pitched 5.0 innings, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out three batters and walking none. Alaina Mendez provided relief with 2.0 innings of work, conceding three hits and two runs, while adding two strikeouts to the team's total.
Sidney Sullivan scored two runs and hit a home run, contributing one RBI in the game. Kaitlyn Cowan also made her mark with a home run and three RBIs. Brenli Baker recorded two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, while Paige Smith showcased her speed on the bases with two stolen bases.
In the second game, Gabby Pemberton pitched a complete game, allowing only one earned run over 7.0 innings. She gave up six hits and issued one walk while striking out two batters, effectively limiting the Panthers' scoring opportunities.
Mary Stephens contributed with two stolen bases and scored two runs, showcasing her impact on the game. Cowan continued her strong performance by scoring one run and hitting a triple, driving in another run. Abryelle Hill recorded one double and collected one RBI, solidifying the team's offensive efforts.
The next series for the Blue Devils will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. April 20 against the Metropolitan Community College Wolves at the KCKCC Softball Field.
