No.2 Tigers Shutout Blue Devils

The No.3 Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team fell to the No.2 Cowley College Tigers with a final score of 5-0 on Thursday at JCCC Softball Field. KCKCC managed six hits but was unable to capitalize, leaving 10 runners on base.

Rebecca Castillo opened the game for the Blue Devils, allowing four earned runs on three hits, including a home run, in just 0.1 of an inning. She issued one walk and threw 20 pitches, half of which were strikes, before leaving the game with her team trailing. Alaina Mendez took over and delivered a strong relief performance, pitching 5.2 innings and conceding only one run on two hits. Mendez struck out two batters and walked three, throwing 68 pitches with 44 strikes.

Maddy Crawford recorded two hits in the game, contributing solidly at the plate. Paige Smith reached base twice, notching one hit and drawing a walk. The Blue Devils are now a loss away from being eliminated from the 2026 DII Softball Region VI Tournament.
