Blue Devil Baseball Go .500 in Amarillo

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team experienced a mixed series against Amarillo College, with a 2-1 loss and 10-4 win Friday and a 5-2 loss and 3-2 win Sunday.

In Friday's first game, KCKCC fell to Amarillo College 2-1. The team managed just four hits, scoring their lone run in the opening inning. They took an early lead, holding Amarillo scoreless through the first two innings. However, the Badgers responded in the third, leveling the score, and later took the lead in the seventh inning. KCKCC was unable to generate a late offensive response, resulting in a narrow defeat.

In the second game, KCKCC bounced back with a decisive 10-4 victory. The team exploded for six runs in the first inning, capitalizing on defensive mistakes from Amarillo. The Blue Devils continued to build on their lead, adding runs in successive innings. Despite a small comeback attempt from Amarillo, the Blue Devils maintained a strong offensive pressure and secured the win with a total of 13 hits.

On Sunday, KCKCC lost the first game 5-2. KCKCC took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, but Amarillo fought back, tying the game in the fourth inning and eventually taking the lead with consistent scoring in the middle innings. KCKCC's early advantage was overshadowed by Amarillo's steady offense.

Sunday's second game, Amarillo took a brief lead in the second inning, but KCKCC responded with a run in the fifth to cut the deficit. The decisive seventh inning saw the Blue Devils score two runs, taking advantage of defensive errors by Amarillo, which led to the crucial victory.

Donovan Johnson pitched five innings in the first game, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out five batters. Tanner Warner followed with 1 1/3 innings in relief. Offensively, Owen Musil led with two hits, while Sawyer Tolk contributed with one hit and a run.

In the second game, Dylan Blazer started and pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out five. Key offensive performances included Tolk with four hits and three runs, Carter Towns hitting a home run and driving in three runs, and Ian Woita also contributing a home run with three RBIs.

In the third game, Will Kennedy pitched 4.2 innings, striking out seven batters. Carlos Rivera had a standout performance with three hits, while Lennox Vann contributed with a triple and an RBI.

In the final game, Camden Brashear pitched five innings, allowing only two hits and maintaining a WHIP of 0.60. Brady Kern and Owen Musil each collected two hits, while Vann drove in two runs, crucial in clinching the win.

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds at 2 p.m. Feb. 17 at the KCKCC baseball field.
