Unranked Blue Devils Battle with No.1

Unranked Blue Devils Battle with No.1

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team faced a tough doubleheader against Johnson County Community College on Saturday at KCKCC Baseball Field, resulting in two losses: 7–1 in the first game and a high-scoring 20–15 in the second.

In the first game, KCKCC managed just three hits and one run, which came in the fourth inning, while Johnson County scored seven runs on eight hits, highlighted by a three-run inning in the third. Will Kennedy pitched 6.1 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out six batters, though he issued four walks and gave up one home run, resulting in a 4-2 loss on his record. Sebastian Udland came in as a relief pitcher, contributing .2 inning to the team's effort. Despite the challenges faced, Kennedy's six strikeouts highlighted a solid personal performance on the mound.

Reid Oakley contributed to the scoring with a sacrifice fly that brought in one run. Brady Kern scored one run and added one hit while drawing a walk. Sawyer Tolk reached base with one hit and walked once in the game.

In the second game, the Blue Devils put forth a more aggressive offensive effort, racking up 16 hits and two home runs, but ultimately falling short in a high-scoring contest. The Cavaliers' decisive eight-run eighth inning proved too much to overcome. Camden Brashear started the game, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing four earned runs on two hits, including a home run, with two walks. Carter Beach followed with 3.0 innings of relief, giving up three earned runs on five hits, including a home run, while striking out one. Tyler Parr was charged with the loss, recording only .1 of an inning and surrendering four earned runs. Cohen Epler struggled in his brief appearance, failing to record an out while conceding three earned runs on two hits and two hit batters.

Ian Woita led the offense in the second game by scoring three runs, recording three hits, and driving in six runs, including a home run. Owen Musil contributed with three hits and drove in four runs, adding a double to his performance. Braden Horn added a home run with two runs scored and three RBIs. Tolk scored twice and added three hits to the team's efforts.

Up next, the Blue Devils will take on the Metropolitan Community College Wolves at 1 p.m. April 21 at the KCKCC Baseball Field.
